To My First Class...

To my first class:

You have taught me SO much this year about myself and about teaching.  I would not trade you for anything.  You will always have a special place deep in my heart for each and every one of you.

You have taught me to smile.  At one time or another, each of you has made me smile, giggle, or full on laugh in our classroom.  Bringing the joy of children laughing to our room increases our mood.  We love to be silly (but still get our work done).  You showed me how important that is each and every day.  It can not only brighten your mood but of those around you as well.

You have taught me to be more flexible.  I thought going in, “Kindergarten..ya I’ll have to be flexible.” and I thought I was, boy did you teach me.  So many unplanned events and longer projects but all in the name of learning.  It all works out in the end.  I listened to the needs of my students and when we needed brain breaks, or movement we did and class went a whole lot smoother for it.  If we needed more rest time like at the beginning of the year, because the class was falling asleep at the second long assembly of the day…that was ok too.

You taught me that each story is important.  Seeing the world from your eyes can be great.  Hearing stories of what we read and how you connect to it - even if it is right in the middle of the story - show me that you care.  What you say is important and I make sure everyone has a chance to speak and share.  The endless pictures, hugs, and compliments do not go unnoticed and I cherish the complete sincerity you emit every day.

You have taught me to love learning even more.  I am a teacher, I already love teaching and learning myself.  You guys took it to a whole new level.  Assessing data, although not my favorite, I was completely amazed by just how much growth you have showed in such a few short months - to think I was a part of that completely makes me giddy.  To know I started you on your educational journey and your foundation of learning, I’ll always have a stake in your outcome.  I love seeing how you pick up on new concepts!  Even better when you get it and want to show it to help others in class - oh the sweetness.

You have taught me this and so much more my first class.  You have given me hope that each year will get better and I can keep up this impact on future generations.  Looking back, you renewed my spirit and made me excited for the next year to come.  You will keep growing and you might not look back, but always always know: I believe in each of you! Stay classy Class of 2026, you’ll always have a special place in my heart.

Sorry it has been crazy town with the end of school year and testing, 1 more day! I'll be posting more soon and have lots of ideas for things this summer! Hope your school year ends on a great note!

Movin' On UP!

So if you follow my FB you might already know that I'm changing grade levels and schools again this year.  I just moved to Minnesota last year for my husband's last year of school.  I taught Kindergarten this year and absolutely LOVED it! I had a fantastic school family - that I will miss incredibly.  This was my first full year teaching and they were SO supportive and I think there will always be a place in my heart for my "lunch crew."  I've subbed at so many schools and finding a place where you fit is hard - I know it is possible but it is hard! Here's to hoping it can happen again!

We decided a little while ago to move back to Missouri and I accepted a position as a 4th grade teacher.  The school will departmentalize and I'll be either math or science for the upcoming year.

I already have a list of things to do with my "big kids" next year and I'm really excited.  Teaching science would be awesome as you have seen in my blog - I find ways to get it in!

Not so excited about the whole move and new place but glad to be back close to my family and friends (3 close friends have weddings next year!).

Do you have any tips for switching grade levels or any 4th grade stuff I should know about?

It's Gonna Be May!

I'm sure you've seen this Justin Timberlake meme everywhere by now - hilarious!

So I'm moving up to 4th grade next year! I"m excited but nervous and am heavily researching TPT for what to purchase for next year and trying to find tons of upper elementary bloggers!

I did create 1 thing so far for my new class and am working on others.  I know I will love their autonomy and I plan to really hold students accountable for a position in my room so I created:

I wish MN would warm up and I could feel like buying some new spring clothes........its May and there was  a chance of snow.  Good thing I'm moving back to Missouri (!!!!!) in a few short months.  I'm really going to miss the school family I have up here - not many people like them and I actually think I fit in but I know it is possible to find that somewhere else too.  My first class has been great and I'm glad I got to experience it at this school - they will always have a little place in my heart <3

Learning With Mrs. Leeby

As a first year teacher, I love the "realness" of Mrs. Leeby - she talks about behavior problems and doesn't just ignore them.  I find that more relatable than others plus she lives in MN and has great ideas for Kindergarten! She has been great inspiration this year and I'm glad to have found her blog :)

The next BIG thing

So its that time again, bet you think I was gone for good! I have thought about blogging so many times but have not gotten up the energy to do so yet.  I do have good reason!! So end of the year is fast approaching less than 15 days for us!!!

If you haven't heard TPT is having a Teacher Appreciation Sale! Can I just say how well timed Teacher Appreciation week is? At the end of the year just a one more week for us to push through- couldn't be better! Here are some of my favorite goodies for end of the year:

This code breaker activity is perfect for those last weeks! So much fun and laughter involved!

Or if you are anything like me and are switching grade levels then, you might already be stocking up for next year! I'm moving WAY up but am really excited so I will definitely be buying some items to get me ready!
